Hola.
This week's meeting was by Zoom, which gives us an opportunity to stay home. Remember we will be having the meeting on the last Tuesday of the month at Zoom.
VISITOR: Karen Emerson from the Southwest Rochester Club of New York joined the meeting because she is coming to visit her daughter who lives in Isabela and works with Honeywell. Karen is the President Elect of her Club and told us that she hosted some visitors from Afghanistan who told her of the several cases of polio which have sprouted around that area of the world.
TOPIC OF THE DAY WAS POLIO: That information was in point with the topic of the speaker of the day, Hector Sanchez, who heads the Polio Campaign this year. He reminded us that, although polio seems to have been eradicated totally, there are still a few places that are experiencing several cases, due to the mutation of the virus and the reluctance of many people to be vaccinated.
It is a horrible disease. Hector showed us a photograph of people in iron lungs which is one of the worst conditions caused by the disease. There was a man that lived in such a machine for 60 years. To continue fighting polio, Hector asks all who can to pledge to contribute $10 a month. If the money collected were $50 million, the Gates Foundation will donate $2 for each $1 we raise, which is a fantastic opportunity.
PAUL HARRIS GALA: Another thing discussed at the meeting was the Paul Harris Gala to be held on Saturday February 24, at 6:30 in the Rio Piedras Club. Pepito has already sent you an invitation. There is a list of those in our Club that have become new associates or have risen to a new level:

You must reserve by writing to rosanamroig@gmail.com . Please also, send me a text or an email so that we will know how many members are going and if you want to be seated together with the group from the San Juan Club. Each one of you should join us to celebrate the fact that we are all contributing to making this a better place to live. There will be exhibitions and surprises.
VISIT OF INTERACT CLUB OF NEW HAMPSHIRE: Jorge Gonzalez brought us to date regarding the visit of the New Hampshire Interact Club to Puerto Rico from February 16 to 23. You must have received an email with the attached schedule which I forwarded to you. Instead of going to AFDA on February 20, we have substituted a visit to Cayey to Jorge's farm.
FEBRUARY 20 VISITING JORGE'S FARM IN CAYEY: If you are interested in going to Cayey on February 20 please indicate to Juanita if you are going on your own or if you want to join via bus leaving AFDA at 9:30. The cost of the bus will be divided among those who request to go with the group.
See you next week at AFDA.
