Our speaker, JON BORSCHOW, entrepreneur and philanthropist and Founder, Chairman & CEO, of the Foundation for Puerto Rico, spoke to us on the role of the third sector in increasing transparency and effectiveness in the Puerto Rican  government.  His major points were: Open government (the way to combat government mistrust); Transparency (shedding light on rules, plans and actions); Integrity; and Accountability.  As we have seen in recent weeks, inside dealings and cronyism have created a deep lost of trust in government. It is fair to say that transparency is a factor that is absent in the great majority of the processes and procedures carried out by the government.  We do have the benefit of the Federal judiciary and law enforcement agencies.  Our speaker made clear that a great deal of good is done in government by public servants, at all levels, who work very hard to provide the essential services

The hope is to involve citizens and civil society to develop and implement open government reforms.
