Noted Marine Ecologist Dr. Maximo J. Cerame-Vivas’, talk "Life in the Universe and in Hot-Dark Oceanic Depths," began by stating that we know more about the moon than the oceans.  We learned that the temperature at the center of the Earth is 6000 degrees and our Caribbean waters are a thermal cocktail of life in extremely hot temperatures.  Our speaker fought successfully in the 1960's seeking to force compliance of laws regarding protection of coastal waters around the island.  Since then, any citizen may file suit for the protection of any natural resource whether it be private property or public domain.  He was also scientific advisor to the EQB in its claim for environmental damages against the tanker Zoe in 1977 for provoking an intentional oil spill in La Parguera.  The San Juan Federal Court granted Puerto Rico environmental damages and clean-up costs.  Thanks to Past President Dr. Norman Maldonado for inviting our speaker, who is also a former member of our Club.

There will be a brief meeting of the Membership Committee at 11:30 AM just prior to our next luncheon meeting. Anyone interested in participating is welcome and urged to please come.
