What a nice surprise when I received by mail The Rotarian magazine. The front page, as well as ten more pages, were dedicated to telling the world how our Island is recovering. We are people of faith and resiliency is our main motto. We are very thankful for the rapid response from clubs all over the world and the inspiring messages received. There is still a lot to be done, but with dedication and hard work we will recover and will continue helping neighbors in need.
The February edition ofThe Rotarian, Rotary International's magazine, dedicated fourteen pages to Rotary's efforts to rebuild homes and lives in Puerto Rico. Entitled, After the Storm, it featured work performed by island clubs as well as by San Juan Rotary. Don't miss it!

Guest speaker, Eugene Smotkin, is a resident of Old San Juan, a Chemistry Professor at Northeastern University in Boston and CEO/co-founder of Nu Vant Systems designer of electronic instrumentation for refurbishing and repurposing of hybrid vehicle traction batteries. A proponent of micro-grid development in Puerto Rico, we learned of the peak solar hours for our island by tracing the path of the sun for the best angle. It happens to be in Las Cruces, PR. Gene detailed the number of solar panels needed per household, possible tax write-offs offered, among other advantages and technical data.
