Dear Rotarians,
Next week Tuesday evening fellowship will be hosted by Rob and Annie Bolt at their residence in Miramar starting at 6:00 PM. Parking is an issue in Miramar so taking an Uber is recommended. There is parking at the Conservatory of Music and if lucky, on the streets in the neighborhood. A $30.00 fee will be charged to the accounts of those who attend to cover the costs of food, and beverages served by the hosts. If there is a surplus, we kindly request that you allow this surplus to be added to the service project account. Rob and Annie’s address is 655 Hoare Street, Miramar. We look forward to seeing Rob and Annie’s beautiful home in Miramar historic zone.
Our luncheon speaker this week was Angel Torres, the former CEO of Bacardi and Plaza Provision and active leader in many of our professional, civic, and educational institutions. Angel reflected on an area relevant to Rotary and our times: “Ethics: The Foundation for Personal and Professional Success.” He explained that ethics is doing the right thing and described personal, professional, and civic experiences that demonstrated the importance of ethical behavior. For example, while at Bacardi the Company collaborated for the common good with what some would consider its enemies such as MADD addressing drunken drivers and CUCCO addressing community air and water concerns. These collaborations were good for the Company and good for the community. On a personal level, he ended his talk with the following reflection: at the end of our lives, it is not what we materially have, but what people say about you, especially your children who he hopes will think of him as a good man.
I am attaching Angel’s notes for those copied that are not members of our Club who I invited and were not able to hear Angel’s excellent talk.
Angel will be my guest on my radio program Reflections that will be aired on this Thursday August 8 at 5 pm and repeated on Friday at 8 am on WIPR FM 91.3
