HOLA!
Happy to report everything has gone as planned this past week, thanks God. PETS (the President Elect's Seminar) was celebrated last Saturday in Arecibo, and it was a success, well attended by the elected members of the boards of directors for 2024-2025 and led by Marcos A. Belen Thillet, who will be our Governor starting July 1. Carmen Pacheco, our current Governor, was there, too. We had a good representation from our Club: Jorge, Gerry, Felix, Pepito and Tito and me.
Then, last Tuesday we held an evening get together which was a tremendous success. We had a large group of people, and everybody had a wonderful time. Our fellow Rotarian Daven Michaels spoke about how he built his extensive list of followers, and the 2025 San Juan Social Cruise. This Club emphasizes doing business together and helping the needs of the community, and many of the attendees who are members expressed their desire to become members of our Rotary Club.
Tito also explained to the crowd his latest project, which has have baptized as Caribbean Partnership Initiative, based on the Caribbean Basin Initiative that existed in Puerto Rico 40 years ago when Tito was in charge of economic development in Puerto Rico, and which was so successful at that time. The purpose is to bring together the Caribbean islands, investors and entrepreneurs, primarily those that fall under Law 60, so that this interaction may help the development and growth of the islands and as a result, enhance the image of all involved in the eyes of the U. S., Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The Rotary Clubs of the islands to be visited by the 2025 Cruise will be invited to participate, and in those visits, the cruisers will meet with government representatives, the Chambers of Commerce, Manufacturers, fellow Rotarians, and others that will be invited to join this effort.
We had an especially important international visitor that night, Wade Nomura, CADRE for Rotary International Global Grants. What that means is that he supervises and supports Rotary International Global Grants and is the representative of the President of Rotary International. He was here in Puerto Rico to overview our Club's Global Grant "Para la Naturaleza", and addressing those present he expressed his satisfaction with the way the Grant has developed in Puerto Rico.
We thank Maria, Jean, and Luis for attending to the front desk, which is aways a challenge. We were glad to have Jose and Dali Ballester, who had been absent for some time due to their work, as well as John Hammel who came alone because Carmen is still recuperating.
Rob Bolt did a marvelous job explaining to the crowd What is Rotary, so that those that want to join may have this information, and that we, the members, get to review all the important things that Rotary has done and what it represents.
Next week will be our monthly Zoom meeting, do not forget. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
