Hello, my dear friends.
Last Tuesday we had a very well attended and successful lunch meeting. Four past presidents came to tell their stories of their time at the helm of our San Juan Rotary Club, and everybody responded with enthusiasm and applauses. Sal Nolfo, John Richardson, Bucky Tervo and Raymond Erb, all took us down memory lane with their stories.
Most emotional were the letters they read from guys from Llorens Torres public housing who are now professionals, thanks to a scholarship they received from our club. They reminisced about when the club had 230 members, when there was enough economic power to award those scholarships that made a difference in some people’s lives. Also, once there was an age awareness campaign. We should talk more about this since the population of Puerto Ricans keeps getting older. Hector Gaitan has talked about this to us, and we need to address it in more detail.
I need some of you to join the Service Committee so that we can start to look at this year’s projects, be they scholarships, or whatever you may suggest. And if you have suggestions as to speakers, please inform Juanita, who is doing a wonderful job on this committee.
On Tuesday we also had the induction of a new member, a Harvard graduate, Mitchell Dong, who also attended the Tinto y Blanco second Tuesday outing, and I am sure he enjoyed being with the group. Welcome again, Mitchell.
VERY IMPORTANT: For those of you who have your credit card on record so that you can be billed directly, you need to send Ken McGrath you credit card security code (the three little numbers on the back of the card), because apparently the ones that he has don't work for many of you. Thanks.
Sal was the only one to notice that my telephone had an extra digit in my last message to you, so to make it right, here it goes: 787-649-9425. Please text me any ideas, would love to hear from you.
Have a nice long weekend, since next Tuesday is the 25th. In which we celebrate the Constitution of Puerto Rico (that is why we are not having a meeting; it is a holiday).
Thanks to all!
Delia
