Election of the slate of Officers and Directors, as published in the Garita of October 22, will be held on NOVEMBER 12.
THE FOLLOWING CANDIDATE has been proposed for membership in the Rotary Club of San Juan. CAROLYN F.C. FERRANDINO(Environmental Services: Bee Protection/Pest Control), sponsored by Jose M. Rivero Olmedo.
Any objection must be in writing and reach the Secretary by November 4, 2019. The Board of Directors has the final decision.
Guest speaker, RODRICK MILLER has emerged as one of the foremost economic development leaders in the country. His educational background includes degrees from St. Augustine University, a Fulbright Scholar, and a Masters from Harvard Kennedy School of Business. CEO of Invest Puerto Rico, our speaker gave an overview of the work done to date that has found overwhelming support from many players on the island as well as a sizeable interest from the U.S. mainland. A dozen projects are underway with others expressing interest. 2700 to 3000 jobs are involved. No doubt that the local economic reality is challenging with out migration and industry leaving, exasperated by Maria. Negative press such as The Economist, NY Times and BBC News is a factor. However, the momentum is shifting and now is the time to act. Competition is the only path to long-term strength and sustainability. The goal is to work together to build a more integrated system to deliver better results. Another fine program thanks to Program Committee member WARWICK BUTLER.
