Hola.
As you know, Rotary is an organization that serves the community. Its principal purpose is to give back, to contribute, to help make this a better world. By serving, we create hope in the world, which this year is the slogan proposed by the President of Rotary International. Each club carries out this purpose by creating and funding service projects that will help the community and that is why we are Rotarians, to serve and contribute to the community.
In our club, this month of October we have several service projects going on, as you may know if you have read my messages. At Tuesday's lunch meeting, we took a collection to buy blankets for the cancer patients and their parents, of the Pediatric Hospital. Maria was so kind that she offered to buy the blankets, and we have fifteen blankets for this project. Thank you so much, Maria, for your initiative and kindness.
The speaker at our meeting was Myrna Rivera, very well known in the financial world, she is probably the first Puerto Rican woman financial consultant. Myrna gave a very informative and illuminating talk about Puerto Rico, where it has been and where we stand. Specifically, she mentioned how to invest, have a rate of return and at the same time, contribute to economic growth. Also, she talked about many entities that exist in Puerto Rico that contribute to economic growth such as 68 international banks, 32 insurance companies, 20 universities, which have billions in assets, but we do not know of their contributions to the economy because these are topics not usually covered by the media.
We also had three visitors to our meeting, Tere Riera, Antonia Jimenez and Antonio Colorado III, who are prospects for becoming members.
You, please, do not forget to invite your spouse, partners, friends, every Tuesday. We want to increase our membership, we must do some legwork, invite people to come.
Thank you for reading my message. Hope to see you next week, Tuesday at lunch. Take care,
