Mr. Alberto Baco, Secretary of the Dept. of Economic Development and Commerce entitled his talk, "It's Happening in Puerto Rico." He pointed out all the administration is doing to stabilize the finances and get the economy back on track. Capital investment, business development and grants under Law 20 are some of the ways he highlighted, adding that growth in tourism is an important stimulant. An attorney, CPA, and entrepreneur, with over 30 years of experience, Secretary Baco graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BBA from UPR. In 2013 he answered a call to return to public service and use his knowledge and experience to promote the economic development of Puerto Rico and be part of the team of Governor Garcia Padilla.
Sadly, we received the news that SJR Past President and Past District 7000 Governor, Mona Gordon passed away recently in Florida. Mona was a trailblazer and Rotary pioneer as the first woman president of our club and the first woman District Governor (2002-03). Mona made many contributions to Rotary over the years and was tirelessly committed to Rotary’s mission. She will be sorely missed and will be remembered here at next Tuesday's meeting.
