This past weekend at the annual District Convention Juanita was sworn in as the next District Governor for 2018-2019. We look forward to working with Juanita and giving her our full support during her year as governor. During the assembly, which was attended by most Rotary clubs in Puerto Rico, we were honored by the presence of a representative of the President of Rotary International(PDG Juan Rafael Flores López). Our club received several honors and citations given by Governor Lucas who recognized our club's involvement in the relief efforts at the District level, involving other Rotary clubs in our projects, and coordinating the challenging task of distributing the 55 tons of toddler/baby food to other Rotary clubs, as well as numerous other relief organizations, throughout the island. We also received the District Diamond Award distinguishing our club's excellent performance during this year. Rotarian Bob Murray, a past member of our club, was also in attendance at the convention as well as our meeting on Tuesday. He has pledged $1,000,000 to fund global grants for projects in Puerto Rico. Global grants will be a very important tool as we transition from providing immediate assistance to longer term help in order for our island to grow and prosper.

And presently a member of the SCOTTSDALE, AZ ROTARY, Arizona, Bob Murray, exchanged banners with President Ken. He also attended the District Conference in Guayanilla last weekend, where he made a donation of $1 million dollars to our Rotary District for Hurricane Relief.
To Alwxandre Cerqueria for his dedication as Advisor to Commonwealth High School's Interact Club since 2004 During his tenure, Commonwealth Interactors raised $40,000 for their "Heart for Haiti" program dedicated to providing space and materials for the underprivileged children of the Matanwa, Haiti community. There efforts, together with the Skidaway Island Rotary Club, prompted Rotary International to provide $150,000 for the Haiti program. Alexandre is leaving for a new position at the Bradenton Preparatory Academy in Dubai. Pictured with Alexandre are some of the people who had the pleasure of working with him including PP Ray Erb, Anna Colemer, PP John Richardson, Club Director Alan Austen and President Ken McGrath. Alexandre was also an active participant in our club's Chili and Sancocho yearly event.
A mission of love, faith and hope was Rotarian and community leader, Amaury Rivera's theme as he gave a first-hand account of the unprecedented destruction in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. He first came to Puerto Rico as owner and General Manager in the telecommunications industry in 1988, when Puerto Rico was riding high in comparison to other world economies. Today, he is a changed person, a humanitarian intent on keeping a low profile, not taking credit for the good he spreads and shares. Among his many talents, he is a paramedic well-informed about disease and physical impediments and ready to dispense good, solid medical and psychological advice where needed and he has inspired others better qualified to address medical advice. When Amaury realized that his personal aims ant Rotary's are one and the same, he joined our club.
