Last Tuesday we had the visit of our Governor, Maria del Carmen Pacheco (from now on, Carmen), and her husband FR Jose A. Orza, who are wonderful people. Carmen is a product of Puerto Rico public school system. She started in Rotary in the Yauco Club in 2003 and in 2015 transferred to the EClub. She has a long trajectory in Rotary and in service to the community in the areas of health, cancer, addiction and has worked as Counsellor for many years. The Board of Directors met with her at 11 o'clock, before our business meeting, and each had the opportunity of addressing her and giving their suggestions and ideas. Maria, our past President, presented our three-year strategic plan and the Governor congratulated our Club for our hard work and successes, for always taking the lead and was quite impressed with the amount of service projects that we have sponsored. She suggested our Club become mentor to smaller clubs so that they can join with us in doing projects. Since Puerto Rico is considered international for U.S. purposes, that brings the opportunity of doing projects with the mainland Clubs, in which we could get other smaller clubs to participate. Thanks to all of you that were there to participate in the lunch that followed.
The Governor also gave emphasis to membership, which is also my top priority, because without members we do not have a club. You that are reading this, think of somebody in your family who you would like as a Rotary, it could be your spouse, children, or nieces or nephews. Invite one person to listen to our speaker Davon Michaels next Tuesday September 12 at 6 pm in AFDA so that they become familiar with our organization and become interested. Do not miss this special event, I hope to see you there. Please send Maria an RSVP that you are planning to attend to maria.rivera@pr.gt.com as we need to know how many are attending.
In fact, Tito and I were invited yesterday evening to attend the Governor's visit to the Rio Piedras club, and they initiated 5 new members, some were family of the President and his wife. In that way you get good people for the club, give them the opportunity to contribute back to society and keep the family together.
I take this opportunity to ask you to be sure to attend the September 19 meeting, in which Joel Sanders will be doing a presentation on how to approach people to become members of the club. I am looking forward to it because it will give us tools to approach and attract good members to our club.
Please take safe care of yourself, they say Covid is rising again. Expecting to see you on Tuesday, have a nice weekend!
