Air Traffic Control in Puerto Rico was the topic when FAA Manager John Melicio told of the safest decade in aviation history as the US system is the most complex in the world. On an island of 3.5 million people, over eight million passengers passed through Munoz Rivera Airport last year.  Mr. Melicio's agency regulates all aspects of the airport, including air traffic organization, aviation safety, and commercial space transportation.  A U.S. Marine prior to joining the FAA 20 years ago, our speaker is the District Representative for Air Traffic Facilities in Puerto Rico and St.Croix.  Mr. Melicio holds a BA in from Emery-Riddle Aeronautical U and a Juris Doctor degree from the Massachusetts School of Law.  We thank Past President Enrique Sigas for this interesting program.

A PERIOD OF SILENCE was held in memory of former Rotarian Lillian R. Strong, Ph.D. A member of our club from 1991 to 2005, Dr. Strong was a renowned educator and community leader.  A Celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, August 16, at 12:30 PM in the Union Church of San Juan, Punta Las Marias.

Gabriel Reilly Andujar gave an overview of Big Ideas, Small Places, a one-day conference to be hosted at UPR, They are looking for sponsors, as well as speakers ready to present their ideas and inspiring life stories to the community.  Types of talks include, innovative new ideas, issues that bring current problems facing our society, performance talks that serve as entertainment. etc. Topics as varied as agriculture, alternative energy, computer science, health & medicine, pollution, government, relationships and music (to name just a few) are welcome' The date for the TEDxUPR Conference is:  Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 8AM to 6PM.
