Dear Rotarians:
This week our area of focus was the protection of the environment. Attorney Laura Rozas provided a great framework of the Laws and Regulations that regulate the maritime terrestrial zone (MTZ) and developments on it. Very useful information to be able to assess current controversies related to the delimitation of the MTZ.
Next week our meeting will be on September 8th at 6PM at AFDA. We will be having our silent auction event and cocktail. We will not have a meeting on Tuesday, September 6th.
Important dates to keep in mind:
Silent Auction will be at AFDA on September 8 from 6:00- 8:00PM. The Silent Auction site is up and running. Please follow the link and register. Please share the link with friends and family, network, etc. We have a goal of raising $5,000 and need all the support. Please, come and join us for a great night.

The Maritime Terrestrial Zone (MTZ) in Puerto Rico was the topic of Guest Speaker, Laura T. Rosas of DLA Piper (PR). The legal framework governing Puerto Rico's coasts has its origins in the Spanish Law of Waters of 1866, declaring that the coasts, adjacent waters, and beaches are of national domain and public use. Very strict adherence to these laws is in the public interest and any concession or permit must reflect the interest of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Our speaker's comprehensive talk created some lively audience participation. Kudos to President Maria for bringing us this most interesting speaker.
