Hola.
Hope you had a peaceful and happy Easter. We went to Viejo San Juan to spend the weekend with our daughter and her husband who live there, and enjoyed the beautiful days, the breeze, meeting with friends and going to the Cathedral for the official ceremonies of the season.
In our Club meeting, we had the visit of several Old Timers, those that have several years with the Club. Two of them addressed the audience telling of their experiences of a long time ago, Telin Fernandez and John Regis. Sol Bravman and his wife Carmen, who now live in Ohio, also came to lunch. Sol told us the story of the Boys and Girls Thanksgiving Luncheon which was initiated by him, and he ran it for 30 years. Visiting that day were also Duarte da Silveira, Jose Duarte's son. Also, Kent Kramer, from the Indianapolis Rotary Club and President of Goodwill enterprises who visited us several months ago. In October they will open their first store in Carolina.
Now to Club business. On a previous E-Garita, I had informed you as follows: The Board of Directors had before them this information brought by the Treasurer: the amount that the Club charges us members for each lunch does not cover the cost charged by AFDA. Which means that the Club in general is subsidizing the meals. It was discussed whether it would be advisable to change to another venue. However, we considered that AFDA is a safe place where traditionally our meetings have been held, they do not charge parking, we do not have to carry microphones or badges and other stuff because they keep all our things stored away and bring them up for each meeting, they have never required a specific number of attendees and usually serve us on time. They have to have at least two waiters for which they charge, on top of the raising costs of electricity, food, etc. A committee has been named to investigate this matter, which is composed of Sal Nolfo, John Regis, Ken McGrath, Jorge Gonzalez, Juanita Morris, and myself. In the meantime, it has been considered advisable to charge $34 for each lunch to members and $35 to guests, starting May 1. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to call one of the committee members to discuss them.
Therefore, starting May 1, the amount you will be billed for each lunch will be $34, and $35 for guests. But remember there are usually only going to be two lunches per month, for one Tuesday will be in Tinto y Blanco and the other by Zoom.
Please do not forget that next Tuesday is Tinto y Blanco at 6 PM. See you there, and until then, have a lovely weekend.
