Dear Rotarians,

Our president Jorge Gonzalez has prepared a packed full-service program for members and exciting fellowship activities. See the schedule for some of these activities in this newsletter. We will continue with our traditional singing of Happy Birthday at the end of the month with fellow Rotarian Miguel Rodriguez taking the lead. Next week we will meet in Tinto y Blanco but from August on we will visit fellow Rotarians’ homes or workplace. We hope that you enjoy the exciting experiences we are arranging for you. Please feel free to make suggestions and help us make Rotary meaningful to you.

At today’s meeting we swore in Annie Bolt as a new member, honored Luis Ramirez with the Rotarian of the Year Award, and swore in Rob Bolt and Antonia Jimenez as new Board members. Rob chairs the membership committee and Antonia is our new secretary.

I had a dialogue with those present on three topics: (1) fellowship/networking – what we can do to get to know and support each other better, and have more fun with greater variety of events co-hosted by members; (2) how each of us can be involved in impactful/meaningful service describing the service events scheduled for his year and some service events in the pipeline, and encouraging each of us to think of general or specific service areas we want to address; and (3) our speaker program which everyone agreed is important but we need to improve the quality of the speakers and topic relevance.

Please send me your suggestions. I am a taurus and stubborn, but try to heed a comment relating to George W. Bush – being stubborn is a positive trait for a leader if he is stubborn on the right matters. To be right, I need your input; I will take care of the stubborn part. Coordination Felix Rivera, Service Committee Head

July-August Organize and promote student writing/video contest in connection with Proyecto Rotary PRoPaz topic in coordination with District with prizes to be awarded on February 23, 2025. Sal Nolfo heading.

Sept 21 (Sat) UN International Peace Day - Dress in white and noon time reflection on our role in reducing violence in Puerto Rico as part of Proyecto Rotario PRoPaz.

Nov 23 (Sat) Comparte tu Compra in collaboration with the Santurce Club at SupeMax Condado

Nov 28 (Thurs) Host Thanksgiving dinner for Boys and Girls Club.

Feb 22-28 Host Interact Clubs seniors and juniors with supervisors from Keene, NH community volunteer work.

Feb 23 (Sun) Rotary International World Understanding and Peace. Award student contest winners, and recognize a Rotarian and a Non Rotarian whose life has exemplified non-violence. To be coordinated with District.

April/May Outstanding Citizen of the Year award.

May 30 San Patricio Plaza Activity honoring and assisting veterans. José Irizarry heading.

Service Projects in the pipeline:

Assisting juvenile and adult prisoners as part of Proyecto Rotario PRoPaz
Pablo Casals Peace Monument (Nilda Comas proposed sculpture) and Peace Pole installations at Luis Muñoz Rivera Park being reconstructed.
Assisting the Fisher Home Organization VA project in front of San Francisco Shopping Center.
Emergency Preparedness Project.
