Hola.
Before I proceed to tell you about what happened this week, I want to tell you about what is going to happen in the following days, so that you put it in your calendar and make sure you attend:
DISTRICT CHRISTMAS PARTY: Tomorrow Saturday December 2, in Guayama, food, music, and good company. Take your family with you, we'll have fun. It's only $25 per person, you can take your chair and your favorite beverage and enjoy!
SAN JUAN CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY: Next Tuesday December 19 at AFDA, 12:30 pm, it is dedicated to Roberto Valentin, a member of our San Juan Club who has been with Rotary for 75 years. We will have music, a singer accompanied by a piano, and we will be recognizing those of you that have been awarded the pins and certificates received from the Paul Harris Foundation. Those members are Jose Duarte, Carmen and John Hammel, Joe Sampson, Ken McGrath, Luis Ramirez, Eugene Smotkin, Ramon Barquin, Tito Colorado and Delia Colorado.
RLI: ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE: February 3 and 4. You must have received at the beginning of this week a notice from Pepito Rivero about the RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) seminars. We urge all of you to participate, specially those that are going to be in the Board of Directors. Tito and I took the first part last year, so this year we expect to participate in the second part.
This week we celebrated the Annual Assembly in which we elected our Board of Directors for next year and the President Elect for 2025-2026. For those of you that were not present, the slate is as follows: President, Jorge Gonzalez; Vice President, Jose Duarte; Secretary, Gerry Cumpiano; Treasurer, pending; President Elect, Ray Erb; Past President, Delia Colorado; Membership, Rob Bolt; Foundation, Tito Colorado; Public Image, Pepito Rivero; Administration, Juanita Valentin; and Service Programs, Felix Rivera. Any of you who would be interested in the Treasurer's position, please step forward and give me a call.
We also adopted a Resolution nominating our fellow Rotarian Gerardo (Gerry) Cumpiano as Nominated District Governor for the year 2026-2027 which I immediately sent to the President of the Nominations Committe, Juanita Valentin and to the Governor, Maria del Carmen Pacheco. We wish Gerry the best and we expect that he gets the nomination because we are sure that he is the right person for that job, and he will make our District proud.
It was proposed that for next year we should have one of our monthly meetings by Zoom. This means we would have two presential meetings, one Zoom meeting and one Social meeting the second Tuesday of the month at Tinto y Blanco or wherever the Board may designate. If anybody has a suggestion or comment on this matter, please let me know.
At this week's meeting we invited Marielis Hernandez to address our members about her experience in RYLA. She currently works for AFDA and was one of our servers that day, bur she participated in 2015, sent by the Dorado Club, and talked about how valuable that experience was for her. As you know, this year our club has sponsored 8 students to participate in RYLA.
We also had a visitor, Veronica Montalvo, who has moved to Puerto Rico and is interested in becoming a Rotarian. Welcome, Veronica!
I hope you have a great week, planning and working towards the Christmas Season. Take care, be well. See you next Tuesday!
