Her work focuses on obesity and diabetes prevention.
Oct. 17, 2023 12:30 p.m.
I want to let you know that on Tuesday October 17, our speaker will be Dr. Josiemer Mattei, who is the Donald and Sue Pritzker Associate Professor of Nutrition at the Department of Nutrition, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Mattei is a Puerto Rican who is working on the project PROSPECT, a prospective cohort study identifying trends and long-term associations in risk factors for chronic disease in Puerto Rico. Her work focuses on obesity and diabetes prevention.
''The United States territory of Puerto Rico (PR) has the highest prevalence of type 2 diabetes. (17%), 72% have excess body weight, 42% have hypertension, 41% have high cholesterol, and 14% have heart disease. Puerto Ricans’ cardiometabolic health remains markedly understudied. at the population level, despite the clear and pressing need to alleviate this burden. Social and healthcare inequities, compounded by vulnerability to man-made and climate change disasters, have worsened chronic physical and mental conditions in PR."
I hope all of you may attend Professor Mattei's presentation in AFDA next Tuesday. Thank you!
