On the last Wednesday of this month, March 29, the new Olive Garden restaurant near the Convention Center will help us raise funds for our club projects.
Here's how it works:
1. Go for dinner any time after 4pm on March 29th and bring lots of friends.
2. Order whatever you want at regular restaurant prices.
3. When you pay your check, include this coupon. Each check must have its own coupon, so print out as many as you need.
4. Olive Garden will pay our club 25% of all the money spent, not including tax and tips.
Inducted into the Club on Tuesday was GEORGANNA HILDEBRAND(Attorney, Retired). She was a member of the Scotts Valley, California Rotary Club and presently makes her home in Dorado Beach. Club Vice President, Jose M. "Pepito" Rivero, was her sponsor.
The Club was pleased to honor officers and members of the Inter-American University Rotaract Club, Rotary International's university student organization whose motive is to promote interest in serving the community and introducing young people to Rotary. Fellow Rotarian, Edwin Aquino is their Advisor.
Of the San Juan Community Library's cooperation with our Chili Cook Off last Sunday, President Jennifer presented Library Director, Constance Estades, with a contribution from San Juan Rotary. The Library, now 30 years old, had over 9,000 visitors last year with 16,000 books circulated.
Rabbi Norman Patz, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Shalom, Cedar Grove NJ and visiting retired Reform Rabbi of Temple Beth Shalom in San Juan, took us back in time by tracing the roots, in the middle east, of the State of Israel.
From Biblical times, to the Ottoman Empire, to the British Mandate, this land, the size of New Jersey, has seen turmoil for much of its history. Israel, with eight million inhabitants, the only democracy in the middle east, has had contentious relations with its 430 million Arab neighbors. Our speaker appreciates and encourages the continued close relationship between our two democracies. Rabbi Patz received his B.A. from Harvard and M.A. in Literature from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, which awarded him a Doctor of Divinity degree in 1990.
Club members Edwin Aquino, Jennifer Bates, Bob Bolte, Gerry Cumpiano, Troy Fields, Juanita Morris and Angela Schlump, attended a special Intercitadina dinner of Area 1 Clubs on March 7.
Pictured are the presidents of the seven Area 1 Clubs, Assistant Governor, Jimmy Gonzalez, and the guest speaker of the night, Secretary of State, Luis Rivera Marin.
