PROGRAM: In recognition of INTERACT WEEK, Rotary Intemational's program for high school students, we will be hosting two of San Juan Rotary's Interact Clubs: Commonwealth High School with moderator Alexander Cerqueira and Robinson School with moderator Elba Rodriguez. They will be joined with students of the two clubs who will share with us their projects and accomplishments in the community.
Our Past President Ray Erb, Youth Services Committee Chair for District 7000, is in charge of the program.
On Thanksgiving Day, our Club along with the Boys and Girls Club will sponsor 500 underprivileged kids to go the La Concha Hotel and have a Thanksgiving party complete with turkey and live entertainment.
Our club has sponsored this event for 31 years, and we members always pitch in money from our pockets to make sure it happens.
At Tuesday's meeting, we received pledges for over $1,000 to help fund the party, but it is not enough.
Please consider donating to this cause so 500 kids can have a special event to remember, and to show them that we do care.
Please send an email to Pat Schneider at rotaryclubofsanjuan@gmail.com and ask her to add your contribution to your regular quarterly invoice. This will really help!
Former San Juan Rotarian George McDougall was a guest of John Regis, Jr at the club's November 1st luncheon meeting. George took that opportunity to make his contribution to our Haiti Hurricane Relief Fund. Thank you, George.
The date for the Family Field Day Turkey Races has been changed to Friday, November 18. Come and join the fun as students from Llorens Torres grades 6-9 compete for a chance to take home a turkey. The activity takes place in Barbosa Park. President Jennifer has some very nice hats for Rotarians who attend. And, the hat is guaranteed to help keep the sun off your face as well.
Donations are needed for our fundraising Auction at the November 22 Thanksgiving meeting. Contributions of dinners, hotel stays, artwork, wine are just a few suggestions.
The Chef is preparing a typical Thanksgiving menu for the luncheon.

We were pleased to welcome back one of Puerto Rico's best known and respected political analyst, journalist and author, Luis Davila Colon. Of course, his topic was the November 8th election. With the aid of slides, Luis presented, in a nutshell, the complexity of the 2016 elections where 95% of the voters feel we are going in the wrong direction. Although Luis never predicts the outcome of an election, he did say that San Juan is crucial to the future of the PDP. Needless to say, our speaker generated plenty of participation in the Q & A period.
Keep the date, Saturday, November 12, in mind as the Union Church of San Juan, in Punta Las Marias, Santurce, celebrates its Annual Christmas Bazaar. Hours are from 9:30 to 2:30, Arts, Crafts, Home baked goods, Food, and a Silent Auction are just a few of the activities. And, Santa will be there!!! Fun for the whole family.
